GET YOUR VROOM ON
Does the sight of a 1970 Porsche 914 or a rare 1934 Mercedes Benz get your motor running? Then head to the Hilton Head Island Concours d' Elegance & Motoring Festival, held each fall (this year, Oct. 26-Nov. 4) at the Port Royal Golf Club. With some 200 classic cars and vintage aircraft on display, the event also offers live entertainment, fine food and top-shelf cocktails.
HISTORY LESSON
During the Civil War, Union General Ormsby Mitchell built a self-governing town for escaped and freed slaves (called "gullah") on Hilton Head Island.
The Gullah Museum tells this fascinating story.
FOOD WITH A VIEW
Enjoy classic coastal dining at
Skull Creek Dockside, where the brunch-to-dinner menu includes hush puppies, barbecue, lobster and prime rib. Kick back and sip a sweet tea mojito while listening to live music. Watching the glorious sunsets and shrimp boats on the horizon isn't so bad, either.
FRESH-AIR FUN
This is an island, so be sure to get out of the meeting room and into the water.
Outside Hilton Head, an expert outfitter and adventure company, leads paddleboarding, kayaking and deep-sea fishing excursions.
