Salt Lake City’s new convention hotel — the 700-room Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City — is on schedule to welcome guests in October 2022.

Ground was broken on the project about a year ago, and the concrete construction of the tower has now been completed through level three. Installation of the exterior facade will begin this quarter, and escalators to the conference levels will be hoisted into place. The topping out of the project is expected to come at the end of this year.

“Seeing the Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City taking shape is both exciting and promising for Salt Lake’s meeting-and-convention future and the recovery of our visitor economy from the devastating effects of Covid-19,” said Kaitlin Eskelson, president and CEO of Visit Salt Lake, the city's convention and visitors bureau. “Our sales team will soon have everything meeting professionals want, and they’re working hard to fill this new property and the many others throughout our community to ensure the long-term success of Salt Lake’s hospitality community.”

The 25-floor, $377 million property will be connected to the Salt Palace Convention Center and will offer about 60,000 square feet of its own meeting space, including a 22,915-square-foot grand ballroom and a 14,689-square-foot junior ballroom, along with 7,413 square feet of outdoor event space. The lobby will sport a restaurant and a lobby bar, and a second restaurant will open on the sixth floor, adjacent to an outdoor pool and terrace that will be available for events.

The Salt Palace itself has earned the GBAC Star accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council, which recognizes facilities that have completed the organization's coronavirus cleaning and prevention program. Several other nearby venues have gained the accreditation, as well, including the Discovery Gateway Children's Museum in town and the Mountain America Expo Center just south in Sandy, Utah.
