New Luxury Incentive Resort Opens in the Utah Desert

The first in a new hospitality brand, Ulum Moab features 50 luxury suite tents near Looking Glass Arch.

Under Canvas, an upscale, outdoor hospitality company, has opened its first Ulum property, a safari-inspired, luxury outdoor resort brand. Ulum Moab features 50 luxury suite tents steps from the awe-inspiring Looking Glass Arch in the Utah desert.

On 200 acres of desert landscape, the first destination in the Ulum portfolio reflects nature inside and out — with architecture that embraces the contours of the land and design that matches the natural elements of its surroundings. The resort's lobby — with floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to the arch and Canyonlands National Park — features local stone, natural wood and polished concrete, and opens onto a terraced deck with dipping pools, firepits, a yoga deck and comfortable lounge spaces.

Each of the 360-square-foot tents features a bedroom with a king-size bed; plush Parachute linens and robes; a lounge area with West Elm furnishings, including a queen size sofa-bed and lounge chairs; and a 70-square-foot deck. Natural woods, woven rugs and a Pendleton wool blanket highlight the use of organic materials throughout, and an evaporative cooling fan and wood-burning stove provide the perfect sleeping environment from spring to fall.

Amenities at Ulum Moab include upscale dining, and complimentary wellness and lifestyle activities, such as guided yoga classes, stargazing, hiking, live acoustic music and evening s’mores. For one-of-a-kind excursions, Ulum’s adventure concierge connects guests with local outfitters for white-water rafting, rock-climbing at Looking Glass Arch, guided national park tours, favorite local hikes and more.

“Ulum Moab perfectly blends comfort, style and outdoor exploration,” said Matt Gaghen, CEO of Under Canvas. “Our exceptional location is inspiring, with Looking Glass Arch and spectacular views across Canyonlands. We look forward to welcoming guests to this unique new resort experience, where they can relax, recharge and discover nature in a whole new way.”

The property's craft cocktails were created with local flora, using ingredients such as sage, juniper and prickly pear to complement the seasonal Southwest-inspired menu at the restaurant. An espresso and smoothie bar brings coffee culture to the outdoors with premium hot and cold beverages and grab-and-go snacks.

The resort follows International Dark-Sky Association principles, recognizing thoughtful development practices that mitigate light pollution and maximize the night sky. Additionally, Under Canvas has joined with the Nature Conservancy to help fund conservation projects and raise environmental awareness through education, volunteer efforts and donation programs.
