Stay Another Day in Greater Zion, Utah

Hiking and canyoneering are among the fun things to do with downtime in the red rock mountains of southern Utah.

Rental cars were made for side trips like this: Take a drive up to Zion National Park, about an hour north of St. George. Buy supplies in the town of Springdale or grab lunch there first at such spots as the Spotted Dog Café or Bit & Spur Restaurant & Saloon, then head into the park with your camera and a sense of adventure. Hikes from easy to hard lead off into the spectacular red rocks.

Relaxation Station

Yes, you can make the Red Mountain Resort your home base for all that the Greater Zion area offers, like canyoneering, desert hikes and more. But sometimes, just getting a great massage or facial is the right call. At the Sagestone Spa, try such treatments as the warm Himalayan salt-stone massage or the sleep tonic massage. Your body will thank you.

Descent

Greater Zion is dotted with narrow fissures between rocks known as slot canyons. Paragon Adventures' expert guides specialize in taking the daring as well as the faint of heart rappelling down the passageways with flair.

Food With a View

Watching the sun set from the Cliffside Restaurant in St. George is a must when you're in town, and the view on your plate will be just as good. American fare, such as choice steaks and seafood, is on the menu, along with root beer floats and delectable desserts.

Swing Time

Visitors traveling with "sticks" will love a day on the Championship Course at Sand Hollow Resort. The 7,300-yard layout offers great golf and breathtaking views of red-rock outcroppings and native vegetation. A links course is also on site.
